Meet The Doctor
Dr. Brittani Nickens was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Her love for animals was apparent as a young child. At the early age of five, her destiny was already set and she was determined to be a veterinarian. To achieve that goal, Dr. Nickens attended Penn State University (State College) where she earned a B.S. degree in Animal BioScience. Following graduation, she was accepted to Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated magna cum laude with a doctorate degree in veterinary medicine.
She continued her training at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in New Jersey, where she completed a one-year small animal medicine/surgery rotating internship. Dr. Nickens also worked as a relief veterinarian in Philly before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada to work in general/emergency medicine. While working as an associate in Las Vegas, Dr. Nickens performed house calls, which is when she developed a love and passion for providing individualized and compassionate care for her patients in their home and other familiar settings.
In 2017, Dr. Nickens and her four-legged family moved to Northern Virginia, where she continued to work in general practice and at a local animal shelter. While working in Northern Virginia and the surrounding areas, Dr. Nickens saw a need for a mobile/housecall veterinary service, given the high volume of pets adopted from local shelters and rescue groups. Based on that belief, Dr. Nickens started Doorstep Veterinary Care, in the hopes of meeting the needs of, and adding to the unique tapestry of the community.
Dr. Nickens lives in Southern Maryland with her two dogs, Coco and Keno, and two cats Topaz and Brie (all pictured above). In her spare time, she enjoys riding her bicycle, attending gym training/fitness classes, dining out, traveling, attending music and sporting events, playing basketball, enhancing her knowledge through continuing education, and spending time with family and friends.
